Wayland Police Reach Out To Islamic Center, Send Assistance to Boston

As rumors fly surrounding suspects in Monday's Boston Marathon bombing, Wayland police have reached out to the Islamic Center of Boston in Wayland to offer their protection and support.

The bombings at Monday's Boston Marathon occurred many miles from Wayland, but their effects are being felt throughout Metrowest and well beyond. And the Wayland Police Department is doing what needs to be done to lend a hand. Wayland Police Chief Robert Irving said that two members of his department, Sgt. Sean Gibbons and Officer Jennifer Ordway, were called upon to fulfill their roles with the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council (MetroLEC). MetroLEC is a consortium of local police departments and law enforcement agencies that cooperate to provide "unique and highly specialized law enforcement resources to all of its member communities," according to one member website. Wayland Police Seeking Info on Car, Home Break-Ins

Twelve cars and three homes were broken into in Wayland late last week.

  Wayland police are seeking information on a string of home and car break-ins that occurred late last week.  Three home break-ins occurred during daylight hours last week on Concord, Rice and Woodridge roads, according to a press release from the Wayland Police Dept. Items stolen include jewelry, cash and computers.  Also last week, 12 cars were broken into overnight, between nighttime on Wednesday, March 27, and the morning of Thursday, March 28. Those break-ins happened on Boston Post, Springhill and Morse roads, and Melody Lane. Items stolen included money, cameras, sunglasses and GPS units, according to the press release. Weston police are also investigating five car break-ins that occurred during the same time frame in that town. …

Dog Walker Interrupts Loose Change Thief

A local dog walker arrived at her client's Main Street home Monday and was surprised to find a strange older model pickup truck in the driveway. According to police, the dog walker headed inside where she talked with an unfamiliar man. Though she didn't know him, police said she told them she assumed he was supposed to be there. "She said he was trying to get her out of the house quickly," Det. Sgt. Jamie Berger said. The dogwalker did leave, unaware that she had interrupted a burglary in progress. Later that afternoon, the homeowner returned and discovered that a water jug full of loose change totaling in excess of $500 was missing. He also found two broken basement windows. Unlicensed Driver Causes Minor Injuries in Morning Crash at Five Paths

A collision at the intersection of routes 126 and 27, south of Sandy Burr in Wayland, sent two people to an area hospital Friday morning.

Wayland Police say an unlicensed Framingham man ran a red light this morning, colliding with another car and causing minor injuries to himself and the female driver of the other vehicle. At 6:32 a.m. Friday, police and fire personnel responded to calls reporting a head-on collision at the intersection of Routes 126 and 27 (Old Connecticut Path and Cochituate Road, respectively), south of Sandy Burr Country Club. Police Lt. Pat Swanick said the police report indicates that a Toyota Camry, driven by Jose Docarmo of Framingham, was traveling north on Old Connecticut Path when it failed to stop at a red light and collided with a Hyundai Sonata, operated by a female driver, traveling south on Cochituate Road.
