Grieco bests Jurist for one-year School Committee seat. Voters pass debt exclusion.
Updated April 6, 1 p.m., to reflect that the results are now official. There are no changes from the unofficial numbers originally published here. The blustery and unpredictable weather didn't stop Wayland residents from showing up to cast their votes in Tuesday’s town election. And most of those voters put their support behind the incumbents. Two of the three seats open on the School Committee went to incumbent candidates and both open seats on the Board of Selectmen went to candidates seeking re-election. According to the official election results, current School Committee Chair Louis Jurist came up 80 votes shy of challenger Ellen Grieco to become the only incumbent not re-elected. Jurist earned 1,123 votes to Grieco's 1,203. In the …

Dear Wayland Parents and Taxpayers. My name is Ellen Grieco and I am a Wayland taxpayer, a lawyer and a mother of two young children who will be in the Wayland public schools for the next 12 years. I am seeking election to the School Committee because my commitment to our schools is personal and profound - I want to make them the best they can be - at all levels. We have great schools - dedicated creative teachers, top notch curricula and good resources fostered by a municipal culture supportive of academic excellence. We are poised to achieve even greater excellence through effective management of our resources. How shall we integrate our new superintendent and what expectations shall we set for him, e.g. should we expect candid, timely …

My name is Alexia Obar and I am running for School Committee. I have three children in the public schools and am grateful to live in a community that values and supports education. For generations our schools have performed well, our children have flourished and our reputation has endured. However, one cannot help but notice Wayland’s schools have changed over the past few years. I believe that at this point in time it is essential that we analyze our schools' strengths and weaknesses. Let us celebrate the schools’ good work and find the courage to acknowledge and address areas for improvement. If elected, I will focus my attention on the following: Accountability Last year, Wayland voters approved funding for an operational review by an…

Friends and neighbors, My name is Joseph Nolan and I am seeking re-election to Wayland’s Board of Selectmen. My wife Elizabeth and I are blessed with three children, Ally (13), Ryan (10), and Jamie (5) who currently attend the Middle School, Happy Hollow Elementary and Loker Kindergarten. We are fortunate to own the home in which I was raised on Maguire Road and for the last six years I have had the great privilege to serve the voters of Wayland as one of five Selectmen. Prior to this, I served five years as a Road Commissioner helping to oversee our Highway Department operations. I am proud of my measured contribution to Wayland over these years and earnestly ask for your support so that I may help our town face the challenges that lay …
