Planning Board Considers Zoning Bylaw for Marijuana Dispensaries

The Wayland Planning Board is taking steps toward submitting a zoning bylaw related to marijuana dispensaries for the 2013 Annual Town Meeting Warrant.

Wayland Planning Board members Tuesday night agreed to hold a public hearing in early January in order to set the wheels in motion on potentially amending the town's zoning bylaw to address marijuana treatment centers. Town Planner Sarkis Sarkisian told the board that several towns in the Commonwealth have already taken steps to regulate where and whether medical marijuana dispensaries can operate in their towns once Ballot Question 3 goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2013. In reading about the Finnerty's issues, seems to me like that location could be a great place for a dispensery, with or without the issue over sidewalks. It'd be locally owned, still help with commercial taxation in the town, and likely be a low-key presence (obviously I'm hypothesizing on that last point). Win-win.   more ›
