How Does Your Tax Bill Compare to Those in Wayland's Peer Towns?

You've seen the tax rates, now take a look at what that means for the average bill and how all of this compares to Wayland's peer towns as established by the Finance Committee.

By now you've probably seen your first tax bill of 2013. You've seen the rate of $17.89 per $1,000 of assessed value, and you've possibly even taken a look at how that rate compares to some other towns. And while the list of tax rates is interesting, a couple of readers have posed the question of how Wayland's tax situation compares to that of its peer towns, as voted on by the Finance Committee in September 2012. Wayland Selectmen Vote to Keep Uniform Tax Rate for 2013

Doing so could attract more businesses to Wayland, officials say.

After a presentation on several tax-rate scenarios by Board of Assessors Vice Chair Susan Rufo, selectmen discussed whether to approve a …

How Does Wayland's FY12 Tax Rate Compare?

Wayland ranks among the highest tax rates in Boston's western suburbs, but will pay less in FY12 than in FY11.

FY12 property tax rates are set, and action by Wayland residents at a November Special Town Meeting kept Wayland from having the highest residential tax rate in the state. Wayland’s FY12 tax rate of $19.01 per $1,000 of assessed property value places it tied with Greenfield at the number 11 position in the state. Sharon has the highest tax rate at $20.11, which is less than Wayland residents would have paid – $20.71 – under the original budget article passed at the 2011 Annual Town Meeting. During a November Special Town Meeting, however, Wayland residents voted to fund the FY12 budget with an additional $4 million from the town’s free cash account, thereby reducing the tax burden on residents by the same amount which reduced the tax rate …
