PHOTOS: Stop & Shop Throws a Party

Stop & Shop welcomed its customers in grand opening fashion Thursday night with a party spread throughout the store.

There wasn't much shopping going on, but there was plenty of mingling, eating, drinking and music during Stop & Shop's grand opening party at its Wayland location on Thursday night. General Manager Mike Bussell presented checks to Parmenter Food Bank and Wayland-Weston Youth Football, citing Stop & Shop's commitment to partnering with local organizations and charities. Bussell also recognized Cynthia and David Hill for their work in organizing a massive donations drive for victims of Hurricane Sandy in Breezy Point, N.Y. "Your stuff is going out like wildfire," Bussell read from an email received from a firefighter in New York. Stop & Shop Opens as First Business at Wayland Town Center

The day has arrived when the first store at Wayland Town Center will welcome its first customers.

Bussell, a 31-year veteran of the grocery chain, estimated that about 110 people were busy working at the store Thursday afternoon in preparation for that evening’s party and…

PHOTOS: Hurricane Sandy Donations Leave Wayland for Breezy Point

Wayland fire and police personnel escorted the trucks out of the Stop & Shop parking lot as Stop & Shop employees, residents and others waved and offered well wishes.

Under a drizzly, gray Tuesday morning sky, two tractor-trailers full of donations for victims of Hurricane Sandy departed the parking lot of the Wayland Town Center Stop & Shop with a Wayland fire and police escort. The two Stop & Shop-donated trucks are headed to Breezy Point, N.Y., a section of Queens that suffered catastrophic damage when Superstorm Sandy blew ashore on Oct. 29. Wayland resident Cynthia Hill, along with her husband David, started last week organizing a massive donation effort specifically for the people of Breezy Point. "How often in life do you really get a chance to make this kind of difference?" Cynthia Hill asked. She said she decided to take action this time, rather than letting herself get busy and the opportunity…
