Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6-10. Wayland Public Schools has specific instructions on appropriate teacher gifts.

Teacher Appreciation Week is this week, May 6-10, so take a moment and show your children's teachers how much they mean to you ... but please follow the rules. Wayland Public Schools has a policy in place for gift-giving to teachers that draws from the state Conflict of Interest Law. Before you head out and purchase that extravagant "Thank you" gift, take a look at the guidelines. In general, per year: - Think in terms of a $50 maximum. Teachers cannot accept a single gift or several small gifts that value more than $50 from a single individual or family. - Group gifts. A classroom can come together to give a gift up to $150 in value; however, that $50 cap still applies to each family. Contributors to the group gift cannot be identified…

Stein: Kids 'Unbelievably Resilient,' But Wayland Teachers Ready for Questions

Students will return to Wayland's classrooms Monday after a week that shook the very foundations of Boston and beyond.

Wayland Superintendent Paul Stein says he is confident in students' remarkable resilience in times of tragedy, but he's equally confident in his faculty's ability to address whatever concerns students may bring up when they return to class Monday. “It’s just incredible what the country has experienced," Stein said. "These national events are just shaking everyone and the local events – the [Nathaniel Fujita] trial for instance – all this stuff adds up. I can’t remember a combination like this." Wayland Superintendent Addresses Boston Marathon Bombings

Saying he can't believe he's writing another email about coping with tragedy, Wayland Public Schools Superintendent Paul Stein provides some resources for parents helping their children understand the bombings.

The information below was contained in an email announcement from Superintendent Paul Stein. To the Wayland Community, How is it possible that I am writing you again about our safety, our fears, and our wish to shelter our children from a hideous event so close to home? It makes no sense. How do we reconcile the image of a beautiful Boston day with the simultaneous face of carnage and loss? It shakes us to the core. When school resumes after the vacation week, we in the schools will be alert to students who are impacted in ways that call out for our attention and care. Thanks Paul. I ran the Boston Marathon on Monday and was stopped by the Police at the 25.2 mile point on Comm Ave. My family witnessed the devastation at the finish line. In the midst of tragedy, I continuously saw good samaritans lending a helping hand to complete strangers.
