Church Burglar Steals iPads, Laptops

The following information was provided by the Wayland Police Department.

Wayland Police are looking for the person or people who broke into the offices of a local church and attached school last week. On the morning of April 16, Wayland Police received a report that someone had broken into the Community United Methodist Church on Damon Street and the Barat Montessori School located upstairs in the church building. Wayland Police Det. Sgt. Jamie Berger said police didn't locate any signs of forced entry into the building itself, but the interior office doors were forced open. The burglar stole business checks, iPads, some laptops and a camera, Berger said. Berger said the property damage at the church appeared to be minimal, the extent of which was replacing some interior doorknobs.

The following information was provided by the Wayland Police Department. Where charges or arrests are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A burned out headlight triggered a series of events last Friday that culminated with a Wayland Police sergeant ordering several individuals to the ground on the side of the Massachusetts Turnpike. It all began at about 2:30 a.m. Friday, when Wayland Officer Chris Custodie noticed a black Honda Civic missing a headlight and traveling south on Route 27, near the Wayland Country Club. At that time, according to Wayland Police Chief Robert Irving, Custodie's report indicates he also noticed what looked like copper in the back seat of the car. Custodie attempted to pull over the vehicle, but the driver didn't comply and instead continued south on Route 27, eventually running a red light at routes 20 and 27. Irving said that the department has a…

Dispatcher, Reserve Officer Will Be Missed By Wayland Co-Workers

William E. Reilly III, known as Bill or Billy to his Wayland Public Safety Department co-workers, died March 20 after a short illness.

Bill Reilly, a fixture in Wayland's Public Safety Joint Communications Center for many years, passed away suddenly last week at the age of 53, leaving behind a hole in the department that will be impossible to fill. "What a prolific, colorful individual," said Wally Nutting, a 30-year veteran of Wayland's dispatch center and long-time co-worker of Reilly's. "Billy knew just about everybody. He had the right things to say at the right times. Those things, I'm going to miss." Laughing, Nutting revealed that some of Reilly's co-workers referred to him as Billy Bear "because he was built like a bear." "He's a character unto himself -- nobody like him in the world," Nutting continued. "He had a heart of gold." Wayland Police Chief Robert Irving…
