Wayland Police say a server at the restaurant served alcohol to two minors during a routine undercover compliance check.
Just over two years since its prior violation, Viva Mexican Grill and Tequileria has again failed an undercover alcohol compliance check. On Tuesday, May 21, Wayland Police conducted regular alcohol compliance checks at 12 Wayland establishments. Viva Mexican Grill was the only one that failed. According to a police press release, police sent two minors, an 18-year-old and a 19-year-old, into the 12 establishments throughout town with instructions to attempt to purchase alcohol without showing their IDs. At Viva, they were served. Viva previously failed a compliance check on April 19, 2011, when two 19-year-olds were served alcohol during a routine check. In that case, the bartender who served the minors wasn't TIPS (Training for …

Wayland first responders and others staged a mock accident at Wayland High School on Thursday.
What looked like a terrible accident Thursday morning at Wayland High School was actually a staged presentation designed to prevent a terrible accident. Members of the Wayland Fire and Police departments were joined by local clergy and an employee from John C. Bryant Funeral Home Thursday morning to present a mock accident for students at Wayland High School. The accident was staged in front of the school just two days before the WHS Junor Prom. The scene featured student actors interacting with real-life Wayland officials and employees to put on a demonstration of what can happen when students drink and drive or otherwise make poor decisions and get behind the wheel. Throughout the 40-minute presentation, Wayland Fire Chief Vinnie Smith …

The following information was provided by the Wayland Police Department.
Wayland Police are looking for the person or people who broke into the offices of a local church and attached school last week. On the morning of April 16, Wayland Police received a report that someone had broken into the Community United Methodist Church on Damon Street and the Barat Montessori School located upstairs in the church building. Wayland Police Det. Sgt. Jamie Berger said police didn't locate any signs of forced entry into the building itself, but the interior office doors were forced open. The burglar stole business checks, iPads, some laptops and a camera, Berger said. Berger said the property damage at the church appeared to be minimal, the extent of which was replacing some interior doorknobs.
