Scores and highlights from the team's past two outings.
On Sept. 12, the Wayland High School boys' golf team took part in Invitational Matchups pitting the team against Boston Latin and Acton-Boxborough Regional High School. Wayland topped Boston Latin, 105-58, but fell to Acton-Boxborough by a score of 105-111. Wayland rebounded from the loss to Acton-Boxborough with a win in its next match. Bedford High School met Wayland at Sandy Burr Country Club on Sept. 19. Wayland walked away from the match with the win, 97-60. Stand out players included James Jurist, junior tri-captain, who had 18 points, and sophomore Spencer Henley who had 16 points. The report below was submitted by volleyball coach Kristine Norrman Wednesday evening the Wayland girls volleyball team earned its first win of the season against Waltham High School. Set scores were 27-25, 25-9 and 25-22. Wayland showed a lot of fight coming back to win the third set after starting the set down 1-12. Senior captain Emily VanMulbreght had 15 assists in the match, Junior Alex Van Rooyen had 6 kills in the match and seniors Karen O’Donnell and Captain Olivia Shaw each had 9 service aces. They played well all game and senior Madeline Brown stepped it up at the libero position.

The announcer for Wayland's basketball teams will be a new voice this fall.
The Wayland High School boys' and girls basketball teams will have an all-around athletic advocate announcing their games when the season begins this fall. Eric Schwartz is on-board to handle the announcing duties for the first basketball season the Warriors will play in their renovated Field House. Wayland High School Athletic Director Justice Smith said that Schwartz and his wife, Janet, have been active supporters of Wayland athletics for some years, with two of their children currently attending (and competing for) WHS. In fact, Schwartz already has some sports announcing experience -- he began handling those duties at swim meets a couple of years ago as he has two daughters on the team. Girls' volleyball (submitted by Head Coach Kristine Norrman) Wayland dropped its home opener Tuesday, Sept. 6, against Concord-Carlisle 0-3. Scores were 25-21, 25-17 and 25-10. "Although the girls lost, I have high hopes for them," Norrman said. "With only 2 returning varsity players and only one senior, the team showed marked improvement from their first day of practice only a week and a half ago. "Setter Emily van Mulbregt ran the offense well and first year varsity player Alex van Rooyen showed impressive defense throughout the match." On Thursday, Sept. 8, Wayland fell to Newton South High School by a score of 3-0, according to the maxpreps.com.
