Fog didn't stop (though it did inhibit) the Jan. 2 Christmas Count
[Updated 11:45 a.m.., Jan. 3] Teams around Wayland and 17 other area towns counted birds and kept track of species spotted as part of the Jan. 2 National Audubon Society-sponsored Concord Christmas [Bird] Count. When the teams gathered for dinner and a preliminary count last night, the consensus was unanimous: Fog makes bird watching tough. Hank Norwood, area coordinator and longtime bird watcher, said the fog will be the dominant memory he keeps from this year's count. "I think everyone agreed that the fog was a real problem," Norwood said. "You simply couldn't see the birds very far.
