Wayland Representatives Reflect on Governor's Budget Proposal

Reps. Tom Conroy and Alice Peisch said they needed some time to work through the governor's $34.8 billion budget proposal.

When Gov. Deval Patrick announced his $34.8 billion budget proposal last week, Wayland representatives Tom Conroy (D-Wayland) and Alice Peisch (D-Wellesley) said they felt a certain amount of surprise over some of the elements, but were glad to see several of the governor's recommendations. In particular, both representatives said they were generally pleased to see Patrick's emphasis on transportation and education, but still needed some time to "digest" the details, particularly the suggested changes in the tax structure and what exactly would be funded under the proposed transportation and education elements. How Will the Governor's Proposed Budget Affect Wayland's Local Aid?

Check out the local aid numbers for Wayland based on Gov. Deval Patrick's proposed budget.

Wayland is set to receive $1.05 million more from the state in Fiscal Year 2014 than it is estimated to receive in FY13 under Gov. Deval Patrick's proposed budget. In addition to the increase in aid, Wayland's assessment is set to decrease by $30,181, from $202,680 in FY13 to $172,499 in FY14. The bulk of the state aid increase for Wayland can be found under the Chapter 70 line item. Wayland's Chapter 70 funding is slated to increase from $3.3 million in FY13 to $4.3 million in FY14. Wayland's net state aid had been on a downward trend since 2009 and, while FY13's net state aid did decrease, the reduction was less than it was from FY11 to FY12.
