Tom Conroy's Camp Reacts to Changing Senate Race

With Setti Warren's withdrawal, Rep. Tom Conroy (D-Wayland) is now one of six Democratic candidates challenging Scott Brown for his Senate seat.

Rep. Tom Conroy (D-Wayland) is optimistically focused on moving forward in his 2012 Senate campaign even as another Democratic candidate, Setti Warren, withdraws his candidacy. Jon Saxton, Conroy’s campaign manager, expressed respect for Warren and his campaign, saying they found Warren to be a worthy Democratic candidate who would have made an excellent senator, but the Conroy camp was not necessarily shocked at Warren’s decision. “I’ve said all along that when Elizabeth Warren got into the race, it would help our campaign,” said Jon Saxton, Conroy’s campaign manager. “When she comes in, she overshadows [Alan] Khazei, [Setti] Warren. I truly feel like those folks don’t have anywhere to go anymore; whereas Tom Conroy is distinct from …

Setti Warren: 'I Did Not See a Clear Path to Victory'

Mayor Setti Warren announced Thursday morning that he is dropping out of the U.S. Senate race.

Under rainy skies and aside a small crowd of local supporters, the mood and setting was decidedly different from Mayor Setti Warren's campaign launch at Post 440 less than five months ago.  Warren, whose campaign has been overshadowed by financial difficulties and larger-than-life Democratic opponents, announced this morning he is dropping out of the race for U.S. Senate. "I got into this race for one reason and one reason only, to beat Scott Brown," Warren said in a press conference Thursday morning. "And I’m getting out for one reason and one reason only, because I no longer believe that I have a clear path to victory in this race."  At a podium in front of his Newton home on Beaumont Avenue, Warren stood beside his wife, Tassy, as he …

Challengers to Scott Brown Speak to Framingham Democrats

State Rep. Tom Conroy (D-Wayland) and Newton Mayor Setti Warren spoke about why they should replace U.S. Sen. Scott Brown at a meeting of the Framingham Democratic Town Committee.

State Rep. Tom Conroy, who represents Wayland, Lincoln and Sudbury, and Newton Mayor Setti Warren, both candidates for U.S. Senate in 2012, spoke to a small crowd of democrats from Framingham Sunday night. The Framingham Democratic Town Committee hosted the two candidates who are each vying, along with four other candidates, to take over U.S. Senator Scott Brown's seat in November 2012. One of the biggest issues for both Warren and Conroy is job creation. With a 9 percent unemployment rate, the voters are desperately seeking a candidate who can provide a plan to boost the economy. Attendees also wanted to know about the candidates’ health care plans, as well as their policies for accepting corporate donations. In terms of health care, …

Newton Mayor to Run for U.S. Senate

Setti Warren announces he will run against Scott Brown in 2012 race.

Newton Mayor Setti Warren has just announced that he will be a candidate for the U.S. Senate seat currently occupied by Republican Scott Brown. As mayor, Warren said in a press release that he has put Newton back on a financially sustainable path, while maintaining critical community services. He also said he has saved Newton taxpayers $8 million while delivering two balanced budgets. The Warren press release says he intends to remain a strong, involved, and hands-on mayor throughout the upcoming campaign. Warren is an Iraq War veteran, and served a year-long tour of duty there as a naval intelligence specialist, before being elected mayor. He also worked in the Clinton White House, and has been the New England Regional Director of FEMA. …
