Republican Congressional Candidates: War Chest Balances?

Jeff Semon and Frank Addivinola face off in Sept. 6's primary for the right to challenge Democratic Congressman Ed Markey. Here's how their campaign finances look.

Jeff Semon is ahead of fellow Republican Frank Addivinola when it comes to fundraising in the Massachusetts 5th congressional district race, but both have a long way to go before they match the fundraising prowess of 35-year Democratic incumbent Ed Markey. According to the Federal Election Commission, from April 1, 2011, through June 30, 2012, Semon raised $21,086 in contributions and took out no loans. Meanwhile, Addivinola raised $6,810 in contributions between Jan. 1 and June 30 of this year, and took out $8,870 in loans. Both candidates are in the black on their financial sheets. Semon has spent $17,772 on operating his campaign, while Addivinola has spent $1,200 on operating his campaign and $5,634 in loan repayments. The following is a letter submitted by 7th district congressional candidate Jeff Semon. “America is a nation of laws, not men.” We often hear this phrase from politicians and pundits alike when they discuss the issue of illegal immigration. In 1993, Rudy Giuliani was elected mayor of New York City. His administration was faced with rampant crime, a racially charged political climate and the legacy of almost three decades of failed liberal policies. One of the initiatives that helped clean up New York was Giuliani’s “quality of life” policy that targeted minor crimes such as noise or traffic violations.
