Wayland Yogurt Shop Raises Funds for Marathon Victims

Frozen Yogurt Innovations donated proceeds from sales last Wednesday to One Fund Boston. And Wayland can put away some froyo.

Last Wednesday afternoon, frozen yogurt and the chance to support Boston Marathon boming victims came together at Frozen Yogurt Innovations in Wayland. From 4 p.m.-9 p.m., FYI owners Lewis and Susan Cohn donated 100 percent of sales to One Fund Boston. "Everybody is so devastated over this whole thing … the whole thing is just a tragedy," Susan Cohn said. "Even though they've raised a lot of money so far, we wanted to do our part." The "part" turned out to be pretty sizable. Receipts from the evening totaled about $1,420, Cohn reported. "It was a great night," she said.

Wayland Yogurt Business Expanding to Waltham

Just months after opening their first Frozen Yogurt Innovations (FYI) location, a Wayland family is expanding to Waltham.

The Cohn family brought frozen yogurt to Wayland just seven months ago, but is already looking ahead to a second location of Frozen Yogurt Innovations in Waltham. The self-serve frozen yogurt shop has been a popular Wayland dessert stop since its opening in May 2012. It features soft serve tart and traditional frozen yogurt as well as a wide variety of toppings that customers mix and match for an individualized dessert. The yogurt served by FYI features live and active cultures and probiotics. Susan Cohn said the new Waltham location of FYI will be located in the iParty plaza on Main Street and will be a larger version of the location on the corner of East Plain Street and Main Street in Wayland. "It's a great space, a great location," …

Learning, Growing, Making Cakes at Frozen Yogurt Innovations

The first five months for Frozen Yogurt Innovations have meant learning a lot, hiring a new manager and expanding into specialty desserts.

Lewis and Susan Cohn didn't really know what they were getting into when they opened Frozen Yogurt Innovations in Cochituate five months ago. It was their first business and something a bit novel for Wayland, where frozen treat options were basically nonexistent. But, "So far, so good," said Susan Cohn, standing the middle of her shop before opening on a Tuesday morning. She follows up that assessment with a quick sigh of relief that Kristen Brown, newly hired manager for FYI, literally knocked on the door last month. Brown came to FYI with an array of experience, including plenty of food service know-how, some management expertise and, perhaps most interestingly, a background in the frozen yogurt industry complete with cake decorating …

PHOTOS: FroYo's First Day in Wayland

Big crowds turned out to welcome Frozen Yogurt Innovations to town.

Let them eat ... yogurt. Wayland's very own frozen yogurt shop, Frozen Yogurt Innovations, opened Wednesday afternoon on the corner of Main and West Plain streets, and it was a family affair in more ways than one. Of course families turned out to try the yogurt and toppings experience, but the Cohn family also turned out to run the business. Wayland residents Lewis and Susan Cohn own FYI and both were on hand to refill yogurt machines, wipe up countertops and otherwise oversee the entire first-day operation. "It's just nice for the town to have something like this," Lewis Cohn said between customer floods. While their parents took care of general oversight, twin siblings Harris and Haley Cohn manned their own FYI stations -- Harris at the …

Frozen Yogurt Innovations Opens in Wayland

Frozen Yogurt Innovations is scheduled to open to customers today.

The dream of owning a business has followed Lewis and Susan Cohn since the early days of their marriage. Lewis Cohn, a lawyer, and Susan Cohn, a real estate professional, had no idea that the dream would finally come to reality in the form of a self-serve frozen yogurt shop in Wayland. Standing in the brightly lit, memorably pink and green interior of Frozen Yogurt Innovations, Susan Cohn said the frozen yogurt focus of their business was selected "kind of on a whim." "Self-serve soft serve is the big thing right now," Cohn said. In addition, the dearth of frozen treat options in Wayland made it seem like a good idea. The Cohns have lived in Wayland for about 19 years and started seriously considering this specific business opportunity …

Made-to-Order FroYo Creations Coming to Wayland

Wayland is scheduled to get a frozen yogurt shop later this month.

Just in time for summer, frozen yogurt is coming to Wayland. According to a post on the Wayland Patch page on Facebook, Wayland residents Lewis and Susan Cohn plan to open Frozen Yogurt Innovations (FYI) at 131 Main Street in Cochituate this month. The shop is currently under construction on the back side of the green building where Wayland Dental is now located. “Down on that corner, it’s nice to see some redevelopment going on,” said Wayland Bulding Commissioner Dan Bennett. FYI will feature self-serve frozen yogurt stations with a variety of toppings to allow customers to build their own “frozen yogurt creations,” according to the website. The owners have applied to Wayland's Zoning Board of Appeals for approval to include a few indoor …
