Wayland's 375th: The Big Finish This Weekend!

It's been a year of celebrating. Here's the big finish.

The year-long celebration of Wayland’s 375th is coming to a close this week, and the 375 Committee is hosting a weekend of music, food and fun. Join in on Friday night the 13th and all day and evening Saturday, June 14.

Friday Night - Concert and Picnic

The weekend of fun starts on Friday night at 6 p.m. with a concert at the Town Beach on Lake Cochiutate. Grab the family, a blanket and some of your favorite food, have a pizza delivered or BBQ and enjoy a free concert of live classic and rockin’ music of the Daddios. In the event of rain, the concert will be held in the town building.

Saturday Morning - Parade
Your Saturday is a jam-packed day of fun. We get started with a bike-decorating party at 8 a.m. at the Cochituate Ball Field. Middlesex Savings Bank and Wayland 375 staff will bring everything you need to deck out your bike for the Parade. Everyone with a decorated bike and helmet is invited to join in the Parade.

The Parade starts at 9:30 a.m. at intersections of West Plain Street and Main Street in Cochiutate in front of Fire Station II. Dozens of groups and hundreds of marchers ensure a fabulous Parade as we travel north on Route 27 to the Town Building. So pull up your beach chairs anywhere along the Parade route and clap, cheer, celebrate and add to the spirit of the day!

The 3-mile Parade route begins at Cochituate Ball Field and ends at the Wayland Town Building. There will be refreshments, fun, games and entertainment for people of all age groups at the end of the Parade route. The parade will take place rain or shine. Brad Keyes, Parade Organizer, can be reached atbrad@waylandparade.org.

We hope see everyone in town either in the parade or watching it!

Saturday Afternoon - Food and Fun!
Then starting at 11 a.m. the field at the Town Building will be fun place for everyone. Enjoy food, the New Horizon’s Band, the WHS Marching band, the Wiegand’s Band Organ, WHS Cheerleaders selling pizza, and much more!

Saturday Night - Barn Dance and Mythical Burn
Dance and party from 6-9 p.m. at 43 Old Connecticut Path for the second celebratory barn dance and mystical burn.  Add some Mechanical Bull Rides, a Pie Eating Contest a Popcorn Maker, and tons of food, provided by our own Stop and Shop: including sandwiches, anti-pasta plates, ice cream delights and a special Old Fashioned Candy Assortment and this spells a fantastic way to conclude our last event of our 365 days of celebrating Wayland.

Bring your kids, grandkids and great-grand-kids for a bit of old fashioned square dancing, called by Tony Parks, and his band.

At dusk the music stops. We all take a seat and take a moment to soak in the peaceful serenity while we look across the pond. We wait in awe, as the Myth Makers set their sculpture, of a Blue Heron, up in flames.  As this lights up the dusk sky we are able to watch the reflection of light over the pond.

Soak it in…. as the final moments of Wayland's 375th one year celebration comes to an end. Remember, though it is just the beginning of our new history.

Wear your 375 T-shirt, your crazy hat or anything that says I am proud to live in Wayland.

A donation of - $15/person or $50 a family is requested (this covers all the food, drinks, bull riding and dancing you can manage). For $5 more per person you can buy a Wayland 375 - T-shirt (sizes limited), or get 2 Wayland 375 wristbands.

Parade Details

The Parade starts in Cochiutate at the intersections of West Plain Street and Main Street in front of Fire Station II. Parade participants will be staging around the ball field and nearby streets.

Bike decorating will start at 8 a.m. in the parking area next to the ball field.

At 9:20 a.m. the pre-parade music and salute mark the start of the Parade. At 9:30 am the Wayland Police and Fire Departments head north along route 27 leading the Parade.

The parade has hundreds of people and is expected to take 30 minutes to pass. The map shows the estimated arrival time for the front of the Parade at various points along the route. It takes about an hour and one half to travel the Parade route, a little less at the head of the Parade and a little more at the tail.

Everyone in Town is invited to watch the Parade all along the route. If possible, the 375 Committee encourages you to walk where you wish to watch, in particular at Cochituate Village and Wayland Center. There are sidewalks along the entire route so everyone can catch a great view!

Parking behind the Town Building will be restricted to vehicles and floats in the Parade.

The 375 Committee extends special thanks to the Trinitarian Congregational Church, the Good Shepherd Parish and the First Parish in Wayland for helping with the buses, public parking and a safe space for the Parade horses.
