Wayland Schools Foundation Holding Benefit Friday

The event begins at 7 p.m.

To celebrate its 30 years of supporting education efforts, the Wayland Public Schools Foundation is holding a fundraiser on Friday, Oct. 18 in Weston.

The fundraiser will start at 7 p.m. at the Henderson House in Weston. WBZ-TV anchor Jonathan Elias, a Wayland resident, will host the event. Proceeds will benefit programs and initiatives in the Wayland Public Schools.

"The auction items are great, they run the gamut. We're hoping we can hit a big demographic," said WPSF President Becky Haase. "We're trying to make this ... fun and it's going to be a great night for Wayland."

Items up for auction include bottles of wine, use of a Naples, Florida vacation home for a week and Red Sox tickets, Haase said. Tickets are available at the foundation's website.

The money raised will be used to support programs at all of the Wayland Public Schools, according to Haase. Educators will apply for grant money from the WPSF, which later awards funds for particular programs, she said. In the past, the WPSF has funded iPads being purchased for classrooms among other things. However, WPSF proceeds are not used to supplement the district's operating budget, Haase said.
