Children's Way Open Houses

For 2019-20 Enrollment

Open Houses for TCW 2019-20 Enrollment

The Children's Way (TCW), the Wayland Public School district's early childhood program, has scheduled two Open Houses for families interested in enrolling for the 2019-20 academic year. Dates are Friday, November 2, and Thursday, November 8, 2019, from 8:45 am until 10:00 am at the Wayland Town Building.

The program's five classrooms in the Wayland Town Building serve children ages 2.9 years to 5 years. Classrooms are staffed at a minimum teacher/student ratio of 1:5 or 1:6. These ratios ensure that teachers, all experienced and highly trained early childhood professionals, are able to provide the individual attention needed to foster each child's development.

The Open House program begins in the Selectmen's Room on the building's first floor. TCW Director Katy Merrell will share information about the program. Families will then tour the classrooms to observe teachers and children in their daily activities. The Open Houses are informational meetings for adults only.

If interested in attending one of the open houses, RSVP to Kathleen_defina@wayland.k12.ma.us or call 508-358-7072.

The Children's Way play-based, developmental curriculum includes enriching activities that build on each child's strengths and interests, meets their needs, and provides appropriate levels of challenge required for growth. Hands-on exploration and discovery is infused with science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) activities. Monthly "Community Sing" events bring all ages together in a celebration of the music and coming together as a whole school. Additionally a certified music specialist comes into each class every other week to do programs with the children.

As part of the Wayland Public Schools, Children's Way engages in several collaborative events each year with both elementary and middle school students, who visit the program for choral and instrumental presentations. In recent years, elementary school students have taken the lead in activities that build math and language arts skills through projects like creating counting books and designing quilt squares for a friendship quilt.
