Whiz Kids: Lemonade Stand Proprietors

Claypit Hill third graders quenched thirst and did a good deed at the same time.

  • Names: Isabella VanRooyen, 9; Caroline Lampert, 9; and Marley Miller, 8.
  • School: Claypit Hill Elementary School
  • Accomplishment: These neighbors and friends managed to raise $110 selling $1 cups of lemonade over three days this summer. They classmates donated the money to ALS Therapy Alliance, a group dedicated to research and finding a cure for ALS (otherwise known as Lou Gehrig's disease)
  • Key to Awesomeness: Marley's mother, Dana, was diagnosed with ALS in 2008. Since then, the whole family has pitched in to raise money for research and otherwise support Dana in whatever way possible. Eight-year-old Marley last summer decided to run the lemonade stand to do her part.

Look for a feature article soon about Marley and her family.
