PMC Profile: Jean Cunningham Rides for Her Dad

The 33rd annual Pan-Mass Challenge is coming and Patch is profiling some local riders.

Name: Jean Cunningham

Profession: Education administration

Pan-Mass Challenge or biking experience: This is Cunningham's second Pan-Mass Challenge, but her first solo ride. Her first event was completed in tandem with her husband who this year will be providing moral support.

"I've been a bicycling fan(atic) since my first yellow Schwinn three-speed," Cunnnigham said. "I commute to work by bike when I can (and when the weather permits), and this has been a good impetus to get back into some longer distance cycling."

Reason for riding: Cunningham rides for her dad, who died of cancer.

"My dad was diagnosed with cancer five years ago and died the following April," Cunningham said. "The ride is in his memory -- I miss him very much."

Training tip: "Ride. Eat. Rest. Repeat."
