April Showers Brought Smiles with Shower For Shelters

The Sudbury-Wayland-Lincoln Domestic Violence Roundtable held another successful Shower For Shelters during which individuals donated household goods for several area shelters.

The letter below was submitted by Diane Seligman.

On behalf of the women, men and children in local domestic violence shelters and transitional housing, the members of the Sudbury-Wayland-Lincoln Domestic Violence Roundtable would like to thank the community for supporting our 13th annual Shower For Shelters. The Shower For Shelters helps families transitioning from a shelter establish their new homes. Care and support of the community gives hope and strength as they take steps to rebuild their lives free of abuse.

Special thanks to Chris Saia of Sudbury Wine and Spirits for sponsoring our “Libations and Donations” wine tasting evening, the support of League of Women voters of Sudbury, Spanish Club of R.J. Grey Junior High School of Acton, Shannon Jones and the Marlborough Savings Bank, and Nancy Simon and the Trinitarian Congregational Church of Wayland.

If you share our determination to eliminate domestic violence or are interested to hear about how our community addresses domestic violence, you are welcome to attend our monthly public meetings. We meet on the second Tuesday of the month at 3 p.m. in the Wayland Public Safety Building at the intersection of Route 20 and Route 27 in Wayland. Our next public meeting is in September. There are no attendance fees or dues.

The Roundtable is a nonprofit, all volunteer organization of men and women incorporated in 1999. The goal of the Roundtable is to raise awareness about the issue of domestic violence through community education and networking and to improve the coordination between public and private services for victims and families touched by domestic violence. Members include police, clergy, legislators, health professionals, directors of area domestic violence prevention organizations, seniors, counselors and private citizens. Our website, domesticviolenceroundtable.org has more information about the Roundtable and our activities, domestic violence, teen dating, bullying and resources.
