Patch Editor Plays 'Pet in a Hot Car'

Spend 25 minutes in an un-air-conditioned car and you will think twice about leaving your pet in the same situation.

We've heard the warnings: "Don't leave your pet inside your car on hot days."

But, since it seems to keep happening, I assume people either believe the temperatures inside the car are exaggerated or they think their pet can handle it.

Wrong and wrong.

This morning, I decided to make myself into a "pet" today and headed to my car with a thermometer just to see how bad it really got.

I can now tell you from personal experience, it wasn't fun; and, I knew that I could bail out at any moment (I have thumbs and the capacity to open the door or turn the key in the ignition). Your dog doesn't. Add stress to the situation and I bet it gets worse.

So how hot did it get in 25 minutes? Check out the video ... and keep in mind that I conducted this experiment at about 10 a.m. on a 90-degree day.

(By the way, no dogs were harmed in the making of this video. My dog was safely seated next to the window unit.)
