The home and visitor stands at the Wayland High School stadium were packed to capacity under a beautiful Thanksgiving Day sky this morning as Wayland scored five touchdowns on the way to a victory over rival Weston, 35-7.
Weston struck first on an 80-yard punt return for a touchdown in the first quarter, but Wayland answered moments later with a 38-yard pass from quarterback Matt Goddard to Colman Lydon.
The Warriors missed the point after attempt, but made up for that with their next touchdown. With 6:28 left in the second, Goddard connected with Robert Williams on a 12-yard pass for the score. The Warriors followed up with a successful rush for the two-point conversion, bringing the score to 14-7.
Wayland found the end zone once more in the first half, while Weston continued to struggle to move the ball.
Weston opened the second half with the ball, but could not advance down the field enough to put points on the board.
Wayland, on the other hand, found the end zone twice more for a final score of 35-7.
According to a tweet from @WaylandFootball, Westwood topped Holliston today, which means the Warriors will face Westwood on Tuesday, time and location to be determined, in a playoff battle.
