Wayland Student to Compete in Weekend Math Competition

The Mathcounts competition will take place Saturday, Feb. 2, at Meadowbrook School in Weston.

A Wayland Middle School student is among the mathletes scheduled to compete in the Metrowest chapter Mathcounts competition on Saturday, Feb. 2.

WMS student Kanming Xu will join sixth, seventh and eighth graders from 27 public and independent schools across the Metrowest area, in Saturday's regional competition at Meadowbrook School in Weston.

"Mathcounts is a national middle school coaching and competitive mathematics program that promotes mathematics achievement through a series of fun and engaging 'bee' style contests," according to a press release.

The top five teams from Saturday's regional tournament will advance to the state tournament.

The competition begins at 8:30 a.m. and will consist of four rounds: sprint, target, team and countdown. The countdown round "is a head-to-head competition (no calculator, no more than 45 seconds to answer)," according to the press release.
