Nothing Says 'Happy July 4!' Like ... Snow?

Six thousand pounds of ice and snow turned Happy Hollow School into a Snow Day situation Friday.

Last week's weather proved uncooperative, which meant that Snow Day would just have to collide with July 4 celebrations.

At least that was the case at Pegasus, the Wayland Public Schools's summer program celebrating its 20th season this year.

On Friday, July 5, the Pegasus kids got to don patriotic gear and celebrate July 4 all while also celebrating the program's Snow Day event at Happy Hollow School, where the program is based this summer.

Brian Jones, director of Pegasus and principal at the Loker School, said Snow Day has been an annual event at Pegasus for the past six years. On one program day each summer, Brookline Ice & Coal brings in thousands of pounds of "snow" and ice for the kids to sled on, melt and otherwise play with.

So as temperatures in Metrowest crept toward 90 degrees again Friday, the Pegasus kids donned mittens for trip down a snowy hill.
