Regis College Physical Activity and Nutrition Fair for Children this Thursday

Is your youngster interested in fitness, food and fun? Do you want to enhance the well-being of your preschool to sixth-grade child?

Childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and tripled in adolescents in the past 30 years, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It is the cause of immediate and long-term health and well-being issues, including cardiovascular disease and pre-diabetes.

On Thursday, Nov. 21 from 3:30 to 6 p.m., a free program at Regis College will address these concerns.

Students in the Health and Fitness Studies program at Regis College have designed and organized an event to promote physical activity and healthy nutrition to children in preschool to grade 6 along with their parents. The goal is to increase parents’ understanding of the types of physical activities children should participate in, provide children with fun movement opportunities, and educate both children and parents regarding healthy nutrition.

“The holidays notorious for family overeating are coming up, and our students want to prepare children and families with strategies to maintain a healthy balance,” said Catherine Fuller, PhD, director of the Health and Fitness Studies program at Regis.

Children will visit stations set up around the gym to participate in activities such as relay races, basketball shooting, hopscotch, scooters and balancing activities. Healthy snacks will be provided and prizes will be awarded.
