Wayland Selectmen Fire Town Administrator

Fred Turkington was town administrator for eight years.

The Wayland Board of Selectmen fired Town Administrator Fred Turkington during a Monday night meeting, according to Selectman Joseph Nolan.

Turkington, who had served as town administrator for the past eight years, was fired with a 3-1 vote, Nolan said. Turkington is gone effective immediately, Nolan said. 

Selectmen Vice Chairman Tony Boschetto, along with Selectmen Douglas Leard and Ed Collins vote in favor of firing Turkington. Nolan voted against the motion.

Turkington had around one year left in his contract and earns $152,000 annually, Nolan said. Selectmen fired Turkington without cause and will offer him a severance package including one year’s pay and health benefits as well as his retirement benefits, Nolan said.

Assistant Town Administrator John Senchyshyn will run the town in the interim, according to Nolan.
