Wayland Fluoride Water Issue to be Discussed Monday

Wayland began putting fluoride in its water 13 years ago.

The Wayland Board of Health will meet on Monday, Sept. 9 to discuss whether to continue putting fluoride in the town's water.

The meeting will include a presentation from an expert on who champions using fluoride in water. The board is considering lowering the amount of fluoride or stopping its use altogether.

Advocates say it helps prevent tooth decay. The town began placing fluoride in its water 13 years ago.

In July, area dentists advocated in favor of continuing the fluoride program while residents said they wanted more information on the impacts of it before making a decision.
