Do We Need More Parking in Woburn?

City failed to receive grant funding for proposed parking.

The Walnut Hill parking expansion has been a topic of discussion at City Hall for over a year. The Woburn Redevelopment Authority has put the downtown parking garage forward, and the city has applied for two grants in the last year.

But Woburn has been turned down for both grants.

However, the city is not giving up. Mayor Scott Galvin and Planning Director Ed Tarallo told the Boston Globe that the city would explore several state and federal funding opportunities.

Tell us: Does the city need more parking in downtown? Do you support the Walnut Hill parking garage project? Or do you think more parking is needed somewhere else in Woburn?

How about the lot behind 654 Main St (fire station)? It seems to be empty ever since the Fire Chief stopped allowing firefighters to park back there.

The City doesn't own the lot. Tocci builders does

Magazine HIll lot was reduced in size to just 66 spaces and pushed all the way to the end of Manns Court. This was because too much blasting was required and not enough funding was there. First Burial Ground and the very old houses in this area would potentially be affected by heavy blasting. I think this project is now hung up due to drainage issues. Also I live in this area and it seems like a ridiculous place for a lot it is too far back from Main St. and secluded. I would think people would be afraid of their cars getting broken into. It almost seems like it is for the workers of Safecor Health on Hovey St. since they take up so much of the lot near The Restaurant. This location just isn't central enough and a garage downtown makes much more sence.

How about a parking garage where the armory decays...? The city will be knocking it down as an abandoned nuisance property and we are paying the bill. Why not a parking garage there?
