Selectmen Preview: OPEB Talk, Capital Projects and More

The Board of Selectmen will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, in the Selectmen's Meeting Room at Wayland Town Building.

Town Administrator Fred Turkington provided the meeting preview below.

After reviewing the agenda and receiving public comment, Selectmen will hear a presentation by Daniel Roche, a consulting actuary from The Segal Company. Roche will discuss the topic of other post-employment benefits (health insurance for retired town employees), best known by the acronym "OPEB," including the liabilities, obligation to fund, status of Wayland's funding efforts to date, and the ways future liabilities might be impacted by the cost of health care and the work of a special state commission studying the issue. State Rep. Tom Conroy (D-Wayland) will also be present to contribute to the discussion.

After considering the consent calendar and reviewing correspondence, selectmen will then listen to the report of the town administrator, which will include an update on the FY2014 capital budget and overall five-year capital improvement plan and an update on future meeting agenda items. During Selectmen's Reports and Concerns, the board will discuss general items of concern and consider whether to schedule office hours in December.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Selectmen's Meeting Room.
