Selectmen Preview: New Firefighters, DPW Facility and River's Edge

The Wayland Board of Selectmen will meet Monday at 7 p.m.

The following was released by Town Administrator Fred Turkington.

The Board of Selectmen will meet on Monday, Aug. 12, 2013 in Wayland Town Building beginning at 7 p.m.  After reviewing the meeting agenda for the viewing public and making any announcements, selectmen will be introduced to Wayland's two new firefighters and then listen to public comment.

At approximately 7:10 p.m., the board will re-interview James Murphy for a seat on the three-member Commissioner of Trust Funds, seeking to fill the vacancy in this elected position through the April 2014 town election created by the resignation of Jared Hobson. The two remaining commissioners will participate with the selectmen in considering the appointment. The interview and appointment process held on July 22 were questioned as insufficient to comply with posting requirements under the Open Meeting Law. Reconsidering this matter will cure any potential defect in the original process.

At 7:30 p.m., selectmen will hear an update from members of the Permanent Municipal Building Committee and the Conservation Commission regarding the work being performed by consultants engaged with town staff and committees to address lingering questions about the access road from Route 20 to the proposed site for a new Department of Public Works facility. Later, the board will hear from leaders of the Economic Development Committee regarding modifications to the proposed housing development on the septage facility site and adjacent town-owned land. If a fall town meeting is called by selectmen, the Warrant will be open to other boards and citizens to petition articles in late August or early September for inclusion in the Warrant. The proposed date now under consideration for a fall town meeting is Nov. 20.

Next, selectmen will consider the consent calendar, review correspondence, and listen to the report of the town administrator, including a review of pending matters and upcoming meeting agenda topics. Selectmen will then offer their reports and concerns before entering into an executive session to discuss strategy and negotiations with respect to the litigation involving Twenty Wayland, LLC, the Town and the Wastewater Management District Commission.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Selectmen's Meeting Room. This press release is a summary of the principal items to be discussed. For a copy of the full meeting agenda, visit
