Interim TA Chosen for Wayland

The new interim administrator will start soon.

The Board of Selectmen have chosen Robert Mercier as the interim town administrator, according to Acting Town Administrator John Senchyshyn.

Selectmen, during their Nov. 6 meeting, chose Mercier over the other candidate, Richard Kerbel, Senchyshyn said. The move comes after selectmen fired former town administrator Fred Turkington in August.

Specifically, selectmen authorized Senchyshyn to begin negotiating a contract with Mercier that would have him work part-time at the Town Hall. Senchyshyn said he plans to meet with Mercier next week to work out a start date and other arrangements.

While no exact date has been set for Mercier's term, Senchyshyn estimates Mercier's term would end when a new permanent town administrator is chosen.

As a result of the choice, Senchyshyn will return to his normal post as assistant town administrator and human resources director.

Mercier has previous town administrator experience in Burlington, Maynard and Billerica, according to a copy of his resume.

Selectmen interviewed Kerbel on Oct. 21 and Mercier on Nov. 6.
