Elizabeth Warren: 'I'm Going to Do This'

Warren jumps into the Massachusetts U.S. Senate race and joins six other Democratic candidates, including Tom Conroy from Wayland.

After months of speculating and days of anticipation, Elizabeth Warren officially announced Wednesday she is running for the U.S. Senate seat in hopes of replacing Republican Scott Brown.

In her announcement video posted on her YouTube page and campaign site, Warren says the reason why she is running is "straightforward."

"Middle class families have been chipped at, hacked at, squeezed and hammered for a generation now, and I don't think Washington gets it," Warren said in her announcement.

Warren, who is an attorney and professor at Harvard Law School, launched an exploratory committee for the Senate run last month. She has a long list of political involvement and influence, most recently serving as special advisor to the Secretary of the Treasury for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Warren joins six other Democrats who have officially declared their candidacy:

  • State Rep. from Wayland
  • Newton resident Herb Robinson
  • Brookline resident and City Year founder
  • Somerville resident and former lieutenant governor candidate
  • North Shore attorney
