Brown Questions Markey's Malden Residency

Boston.com is reporting an early salvo has been fired in what could be the Senate special election showdown.

In a radio interview Wednesday morning, U.S. Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA) jabbed at Democratic Congressman Edward Markey about his residency in Malden, according to a Boston.com report.

Brown questioned if Markey still lives in Massachusetts anymore and also told WTKK-FM he often sees members of the Bay State congressional delegation on planes trips home but said "I have never seen Ed on the airplane—ever," according to the report.

Markey spokeswoman Giselle Barry responded in an email to Patch, "Scott Brown has not yet announced that he is running for Senate, but he is already launching false, personal attacks from the sidelines. Ed Markey lives in Malden, and has lived there his entire life. He and his wife own their home in Malden. He is proud to come from and represent the values of the people of Malden. This campaign should be about what matters most to the people of Massachusetts: jobs, education, health care and the environment."

This salvo from Brown could be a preview of a possible showdown with Markey over the Senate seat expected to be vacated by John Kerry if he is confirmed as the next U.S. Secretary of State. Boston.com reports Brown has "hinted" he could run for the seat while Markey said he would run if Kerry's confirmation is successful.

Oh for the love of mike! If Markey were a Republican the Globe would have had the story on Markeys phony residency years ago. While liberals are perfectly okay with the lies, corruption and criminal behavior of theur candidates - see DiMasii, Fiinerran, et al, we are supposed to be aghast thst Brown stated the obvious

Hi Cliff, thanks for responding. I am just pointing out, as you know, that going negative didn't help Brown the last time around, and one wonders what he's thinking tacking with the same strategy....which may have actually cost him the election. I'm no Markey fan, but he's not doing what a lot of people in Congress are doing with residency issues.

Hello Keith ... What cost Brown the election was more liberals voting for Elizabeth Warren. You can throw rational thought out the window in this state when it comes to the voters, where the majority are registered Unenrolled than either Democrat or Republican. What did not help were those Republicans who did not think Brown was conservative enough for them and chose not to vote. I do not consider stating the obvious to be mudslinging. The few times I have been in the presense of Mr. Markey I was shocked by how vacuous he is. That is my opinion. While at the same event, in the presence of Governor Patrick I was impressed by him. Don't agree with eithers ideology, but the Governor was a gentleman while Markey was a bafoon. And I, like many of his constituants, question where he actually hangs his hat. But, if he is not breaking any laws by living most of the time in the D.C. area, then good for him. At least he is not breaking any laws.

Cliff, when he isn't in the District, Ed Markey lives in Malden. I know it, you know it, Scott Brown knows it.
