Big MBTA Service Changes Marathon Monday

The transportation system will have more subway cars running, while some stations will be closed and parking garages will be cash-only.

The MBTA said it will implement major changes for the Boston Marathon, which will be held Mon., April 21.

Some of the changes include:

  • The Copley and Arlington subway stations will be closed all day Monday
  • MBTA parking garages will be cash-only and drivers must pay upon entering
  • Bikes will be prohibited on MBTA vehicles
Officials said those measures will reduce congestion.

"The MBTA will enhance service to rush-hour levels before and after the race," officials said in a statement.

They urged people planning on attending the marathon to take public transportation and monitor T-alerts for service updates.

The MBTA compiled this transportation guide for the marathon.
