Wayland Police Charge Man with Assault Upon Disabled Person

Witnesses say George Chin slapped his son.

On Saturday afternoon, witnesses at a Special Olympics event being held at the in Wayland reported that George Chin slapped his son.

A police press release said that Chin, 63, of 22 Holly Lane in Mattapoisett was arrested and charged with domestic assault and battery and assault/battery upon a disabled person.

According to Wayland Police Chief Robert Irving, witnesses reported seeing Chin slap his 22-year-old son, a participant in the Special Olympics event that day. Irving said it was determined that the “use of force was excessive,” and Chin was arrested.

In addition, police made a referral to the Disabled Persons Protection Commission.

Special Olympics coaches, Irving said, released the son to his mother after Chin was arrested.

Chin was arraigned Monday at Framingham District Court. He was released on personal recognizance and will appear for a pre-trial hearing on June 29.
