Wayland Police Arrest Second Suspect in Attempted Carjacking

The information below was supplied by the Wayland Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, they do not indicate a conviction.

A second young man is now in custody on an array of charges related to what Wayland police called an attempted carjacking on Oct. 24.

Concord police arrested John R. Abbott, 20, on Tuesday after Wayland police learned information that led them to seek Abbott at a Concord hospital.

Wayland Det. Sgt. Jamie Berger said Wayland police verifed that information and Concord police subsequently arrested Abbott, who was then transferred to Wayland police custody.

Wayland Police issued a wanted poster for Abbott, a Wayland resident, on Nov. 1. Police say that he and Elias Benjamin Breit, who was arrested on Oct. 28, attempted to carjack a Framingham man on a quiet Wayland street.

Police responded to a call on Oct. 24 about a possible fight on Edgewood Road in Cochituate. When officers arrived, the victim told them two men had gotten into his vehicle, a red Ford Ranger, and attempted to carjack him. When he fought back, the suspects fled.

Abbott is charged with carjacking, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy and attempt to commit a crime.
