Son of Red Sox Broadcaster Charged with Murder

Jared Remy will be arraigned at Waltham District Court Friday morning.

Jared Remy, son of Red Sox owner Jerry Remy, has been arrested and charged with the murder of Jennifer Martel.

According to Waltham Patch, Jared Remy, 34, was arrested Friday morning and charged with murder, assault and battery in a domestic situation and assault with a dangerous weapon after investigators found him at the scene of a stabbing in the Windsor Village apartment complex in Waltham Thursday evening.

In a press conference Friday morning, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said officers responded to Stearns Hill Road Thursday evening and found Martel outside her apartment and suffering from multiple stab wounds. Ryan said a struggle had taken place inside and outside the apartment. Remy was arrested at the scene and transported to the hospital for minor injuries, according to the DA.

Martel's child was at the apartment complex during the incident, Ryan said, and the Department of Children and Families have taken custody of the child.

Earlier this week, Remy was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, Ryan said. He was released Wednesday on personal recognizance and given a "no abuse" order. There was no active restraining order in place on Wednesday, Ryan said.

"The bail  recommendation on Wednesday was made based on a totality of the circumstances," Ryan said. Authorities based that decision on conversations with Martel and their investigation, according to Waltham Patch.

Responding to questions on the bail decision, Ryan said they were focused on the current investigation.

According to public documents, Jerry Remy owns a home in Wayland.
