The Wayland Police Department kicked off 2013 with three New Year's Day arrests, including two on assault charges.
Perhaps not unexpectedly, the first arrest of 2013 came in the form of an OUI for 22-year-old Garrett Moore of Henry's Mill Lane in Sudbury.
According to a press release, officers spotted a car soon after midnight speeding south on Route 27 and began following the vehicle. They then observed the driver fail to stay within marked lanes on Route 20 and conducted a traffic stop.
Following an investigation, officers arrested Moore and charged him with operating under the influence of liquor, a marked lanes violation, speeding and possession of less than 1 ounce of marijuana.
Later that morning, at 11:36 according to a press release, officers responded to a call about a dispute between a mother and daughter. When officers arrived at 11 Bow Road, they subsequently arrested 22-year-old Jennifer Payne on a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. According to police, Payne threw a water cooler bottle at her mother.
The final arrest of the day came at 2:24 p.m., when police responded to a call about a dispute between sisters on Old Farm Road. Anne Cappellucci, 51, of 16 Old Farm Road was arrested and charged with assault and battery.
