Former Wayland Resident Faces New Charges Following Trooper's Death

A Plymouth County Grand Jury has indicted former Wayland man William Senne for motor vehicle homicide in the death of Massachusetts State Trooper Ellen Englehardt.

The indictment comes nearly three months after Englehardt died as a result injuries she sustained on July 26, 2003, when Senne, who was 18 at the time, crashed his vehicle into Englehardt's. The accident caused Englehardt severe brain damage, from which she never recovered. She died June 11, 2011, from the injuries.

Senne, now 26, pleaded guilty to causing the accident in 2005 and was sentenced to two and a half years in jail for operating under the influence to cause bodily injury, according to the Boston Herald.

“We are grateful for [Plymouth] District Attorney [Timothy] Cruz's efforts to seek justice for Trooper Ellen Englehardt," said Massachusetts State Police Superintendent Col. Marian McGovern in a statement. "Nothing can ever fill the hole left in the hearts and lives of those who knew and loved Ellen, but it is entirely fitting that the person whose actions caused this tragedy be held accountable for her death."

Senne is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 22, in Brockton Superior Court.
