Shapiro Announces Run for Wayland Selectman

Dear Voters:

I am delighted to announce my candidacy for a three-year term on the Board of Selectmen. I am running because I care deeply about Wayland’s well-being, now and in the future, and because I believe that Wayland needs a leader with a fresh perspective—someone who can lend a new and independent voice to the Board of Selectmen.

When my husband Dan and I decided to move from New York to his home state of Massachusetts six years ago, I was in charge of house hunting. Though I liked many of the nearby towns, I fell in love with Wayland. It has everything we need for ourselves and our three children (ages 3, 7, and 11): a top-notch school system; abundant natural beauty with easy access to shopping, recreation, and cultural activities; a reputation as a caring community; and proximity to our jobs. Dan and I have set down our roots and our family is thriving in Wayland. We are here for the long haul, and we hope that someday our kids will raise their families in Wayland, too.

I decided to run for Selectman because I believe that with my background and experience, I can make a significant contribution to our town and help maintain the quality of life for all residents for years to come.

I am the daughter of Greek immigrants who came to this country with nothing. I worked my way through high school, college, and law school. I know the value of a dollar and how to live within a budget. I also know the value of education. One of my sisters is a pediatrician, the other is a business executive, and I have worked in the public sector for more than fourteen years as a prosecuting attorney.

I have the skills and training a Selectman needs to objectively analyze the issues by researching and considering the relevant facts, financial implications, short- and long-term effects, and residents’ perspectives. I am committed to transparency in Town finances and operations, and to building consensus and fostering greater communication between Town employees, members of boards and committees, and all residents. I am passionate about helping other people. My core values are humility, respect, and integrity.

Please visit www.ArgieShapiro.com for more information about my background and candidacy, and to contact me regarding issues that are important to you. I hope to hear from you soon and that you will help elect me to the Board of Selectmen with your vote on Tuesday, April 1.

Thank you very much for your consideration.
