LETTER: Town Meeting Member Suggests Moving Halloween to Saturday

Glazer: "In the spirit of practicality, I suggest the Town of Framingham 'move Halloween' ... to avoid the bad weather and possible "Sandy clean-up."

In the spirit of practicality, I suggest the Town of Framingham "move Halloween" to Saturday Nov. 3 (which has a very promising weather forecast) to avoid the bad weather and possible "Sandy clean-up."

The town can keep the kids safe and out of the rain, reduce the stress of those dealing with post Sandy issues and allow for our children to arrive back at school on Monday more rested.

How can we make this happen?

Who is empowered to make a decision like this? The Town Manager? The Board of Selectmen?

Eric Glazer
Town Meeting member, Precinct 6

Makes sense to me. Chances are we are still going to have downed power lines in inconvenient places, and I'm not banking on a speedy response by NSTAR.

They could always do a reverse 911 call to all Framingham residents if they decide to reschedule Halloween. Hopefully, the kids can go on the actual date, weather permitting.

I like the idea. But last year in the Oaks neighborhood there were live power lines down, and the suggestion of postponing Halloween to a later date was scoffed at.

Personally, I love the idea. Safety should be the priority.

+1 of Eric's suggestion to move to Saturday but it may be too late at this point to get the word out. Probably should have made this decision last week.
