Jeanne Downs puts children first

We write to express our enthusiastic support of Jeanne Downs as candidate for School Committee.  Whether through her service in the elementary school, middle school and high school PTOs, at the pool, or as part of the community at large, Jeanne has demonstrated time and time again that her focus is on what is best for our children.  She has also demonstrated the kind of foresight, civility, and teamwork we believe is required to help maintain the quality of our schools in a fiscally responsible manner for years to come.

As a window into what makes Jeanne exceptional, consider that in addition to the countless hours she spends coaching and managing Wayland’s recreational swim team, at the close of each swim season she takes the time to celebrate the accomplishments of each child in the program – all 160 or so of them.  In so doing, Jeanne highlights each of their achievements and seeks to motivate them, on and off the pool deck, with encouraging words.  From the team members who swam competitively for the first time to those returning year after year, each child is made to feel like an invaluable member of the team.

There are many factors that go into what makes a good candidate for public office; political views and fiscal responsibility chief among them.  We believe, however, that for the office of School Committee, putting children first is paramount.  No candidate does this better than Jeanne Downs.
