Blog #2 A CELEBRATION OF LIFE…..

Giving and receiving are synonymous with each other.  I know when I give to someone or something it feels so good.  Opening your heart and mind, resources and sometimes wallets are not only beneficial to the receiving end but to the givers heart & soul.  Not only does giving make you feel good, but according to a Forbes Magazine Article dated 12/22/2009 and titled The Benefits of Giving Back;

“People who participated in volunteer activities literally help make their heart grow stronger. “

Often times giving leads to something even bigger like awareness and perhaps even cures of horrible diseases.  Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a time to not only to help so many afflicted with breast cancer, but to spread awareness and show people they are not alone in their fight and their recovery.

During the last 12 years I have had the pleasure of working with amazing women during treatment and recovery of Breast Cancer.  Through Yoga, Pilates and weights, women have not only worked through their recovery and back to full range of motion, have exceeded their own expectations of their ability to get back to their fitness and beyond, but they learned that they don’t want anyone else to have to go through what they have experienced.  The goal is the same:  find a cure!  My very good friend, Susan inspired me to do this important work when she was recovering from breast cancer 12 years ago and she continues to inspire myself as well as many others every day.

This Friday night people recovering from breast cancer, friends and family of breast cancer survivors and those who just want to help wipe out this disease will come together for an evening of Celebration. By practicing yoga by candlelight, mingling and shopping, people will feel the unbelievable benefits of giving.  This is a 75 minute donation based yoga class with all the proceeds going to Dr. Leisha Emens of Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center.  Dr. Emens  is working on a vaccine for breast cancer and is the Doctor who saved my friend, Susan’s life and with our help, she will undoubtedly save many more lives.
