The fast day of Tisha B'Av falls in July or August, and many of us know little about it, and what we do known might not be very meaningful to our lives today. It is a day of mourning, and remembering the destructions of the Temple in Jerusalem. We may find this hard to relate to, but the idea of collective or community trauma isn't new to us. The Marathon bombing, Katrina, 9/11, Sandy Hook, wildfires in Colorado - these together with many more events in the news and the looming specter of climate change are our modern collective traumas. In Judaism, to remember an ancient trauma, we fast. But what do we do about perceiving an impending trauma? Join us for Tisha B'Av on Monday evening, July 15, to view the film, Chasing Ice in the context of prayers and readings related to Tisha B'Av, the ninth of the Jewish month of Av, as we explore questions about how to handle our fears and our grief in the face of something over which we feel that we have little control.
