Interfaith Theme for Temple Shir Tikva Scholar in Residence Weekend

Temple Shir Tikva, the Reform Congregation in Wayland, Ma, is hosting a



scholar in residence weekend October 18-20, with Dr. Michael Cook, a renowned



expert in Judeo-Christian studies.









The community is invited to study with Dr. Cook on topics ranging from:



What are the essential differences between Judaism and Christianity? What is



the Christian Bible and how is it relevant to Jews today? What do Christians



know about Jews and what do Jews know about Christianity?









The



weekend begins on Friday, October 18th at 6:15pm with Shabbat Services followed



by a dinner and lecture. It continues at 9:30am on Saturday October 19th



and Sunday October 20th from 9am-11am

The interfaith theme of the weekend responds to Shir Tikva member



requests for more interfaith learning and programs during the Temple’s 36th



Year celebration, 2013-14.     









Dr. Cook is Bronstein Professor of Judeo-Christian Studies at Hebrew



Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, and the only rabbi in



North America with a Chair in New Testament. In 2003, he was one of seven



scholars selected by the Catholic Bishops to assess the accuracy of the advance



script of Mel Gibson's movie Passion of the Christ. Dr. Cook has



received an Excellence in Teaching Award from the Greater Cincinnati Consortium



of Universities.
