Musicians of the Old Post Road presents "With Liberty and Music for All: Music of the American Moravians"

Co-presented by the Wayland Historical Society

The acclaimed period-instrument chamber ensemble Musicians
of the Old Post Road continues its 25th anniversary season with a program
entitled "With Liberty and Music for All: Music of the
American Moravians," featuring fascinating and rarely heard
vocal and instrumental music from the 18th-century American Moravian
community of Salem, North Carolina. Joined by the vocal duo "Les Sirènes" (Kristen Watson and Kathryn Mueller, sopranos) in works by
Moravian composers, the ensemble will also perform instrumental chamber
music by Joseph Haydn, J.C. F. Bach and others.

Arriving from Central Europe in the 1740s, the Moravians
established communities in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Ohio. Music
had a central role in their lives and activities. When they immigrated to
America, they brought with them thousands of music manuscripts by European
composers (such as Haydn and J.C.F. Bach). They also composed music that
is of impressively high quality that included copious vocal works with
instrumental ensemble and chamber music. Musicians of the Old Post Road
will present a sampling of these musical treasures.
