Education, the environment and energy and transportation infrastructure were the issues Democratic candidate for state representative in the 13th Middlesex District Brian LeFort of Framingham singled out at his campaign kickoff event Monday night.

LeFort is a Saxonville resident and a Framingham Town Meeting member.

LeFort is one of two Democrats seeking the state representative seat that represents the Saxonville section of Framingham (Precinct 3), three out of the four precincts in Wayland, and a handful of precincts in the City of Marlborough and the Town of Sudbury.

"It's time for the younger generation to work with the older generation but it has to be from within the system in order for the system to be more effective," said LeFort, who is employed as a legislative staffer for Framingham State Rep. Chris Walsh, who represents about half the precincts in Framingham.

LeFort, 25, said he plants to devote his "energy to working with people in public service and for people."

On education, LeFort, a graduate of Framingham Public Schools and Suffolk University, said "We know that our government must find innovative ways to fund our school systems so that to not burden the municipalities."
He said the state needs to make strides to "combat climate change and to preserve open space."

Current 13th Middlesex District State Rep. Thomas Conroy announced in January he wants to be the state's next treasurer.

“I look forward to bringing a fresh perspective, my community experience, and legislative know-how to this race. This campaign will be a grassroots effort to engage residents about what we can accomplish as a collective group to move the region forward into the 21st Century and beyond, said LeFort, when he announced his candidacy in January.

The Democratic primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 16.
