Where Should A Crosswalk Be Added in Wayland?

Contribute to a lively conversation by posting a comment below.

This summer, Wayland Patch asked you where in Wayland drivers speed the most. Several roads were mentioned including Pelham Island Road, Claypit Hill Road and Rice Road.

Now, we would like to ask readers: Where should a crosswalk be added in Wayland?

What do you think? Let us know by posting your thoughts in the comments section below.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of a location but I would recommend that Wayland paint crosswalks different bright colors every year or so to bring attention to them. Especially the ones on Rt. 20.

From Bow Road to the east side of Rte. 126! If you are trying to cross from Bow Road to the Rte. 126 sidewalk to get to the library or town center, or going the other way from 126 to Bow Road, you have to make a dangerous dash across the road. The traffic coming from both directions is coming around a bend. Pedestrians leaving Bow Road are coming up a slope, so they are harder to see. And it's a wide intersection, so it's not at all clear where is the best place to cross, especially with the possibility of southbound 126 traffic turning onto Bow Road. There is bad visibility there and if pedestrians walk up the left side of Bow Road as is customary, traffic turns right into them.

On Route 126 across from Bow Road. They're are a number of families with young children on Bow Road who regularly have to dart dangerously across Route 126 to connect with the sidewalk!

Many families love to walk in the "Old Cow Pasture" and community gardens on Route 27, but there is no crosswalk from the other side Rt. 27. A crosswalk at near the intersection of Bow Road would make a lot of sense, and this would also serve pedestrians going to the future commercial development known as "town center."

We definitely need a crosswalk on Rt. 126 and Bow Road, just north of the town library. Many pedestrians from the surrounding area use that crossing because the the walking route is so terrific (Bow Road and up to Mill Pond). But that intersection is incredibly dangerous because of the width of Bow Road at that point, the speed of traffic, and curves in Rt. 126 that limit visibility.

Rte 27 at Pequot Rd. Would make it easier for the folks who walk, run, and do either of those activities with a stroller or dog (s). Would also likely be a benefit to those children walking or riding to Happy Hollow elementary school.
