Weekend Happenings: School Plays, Holiday Fairs and Parents Night Out

There's plenty going on close to home this weekend.

Holiday Jingles Fair

When/Where: Saturday, 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at Community United Methodist Church (5 Damon St., Wayland)

The Buzz: Admit it, you've been trying to ignore the holiday commercials that are already inundating TV. But ignoring the songs won't change that the holidays are on their way. The Holiday Jingles Fair offers you a great opportunity to start (or finish) your shopping and get in the holiday spirit.

When/Where: Saturday, 8 p.m. at the Rivers School Conservatory (333 Winter St., Weston)

The Buzz: The Rivers School Jazz Festival brings the Cryogenic Renaissance Orchestra Live (a.k.a. The Greg Hopkins Nonet) to the stage.

High School Plays

When/Where: Various

The Buzz: 'Tis the season when area high school theater groups present their fall productions. In Wayland, "Voices from the Fire" tells the story of the 1911 shirtwaist factory fire. Weston High School will be presenting Shakespeare's "The Merchant of Venice" in unique fashion and the LSB Players at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School will tackle "Twelfth Night" set in a 1950s diner.

Gobble Wobble 5K for SMILE Mass

When/Where: Saturday. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the races start at 10 a.m. at Curtis Middle School (22 Pratts Mill Road, Sudbury)

The Buzz: Come out for a fall 5K and support SMILE Mass with your registration fee. Even for non-runners, this event boasts opportunities to complete some holiday shopping, enjoy kids' activities and support the runners.

Price: Registration for the 5K run/walk, $25

Kids Skate Nite/Parents Night Out!

When/Where: Saturday, 6 p.m.-9 p.m. at 34 Massachusetts Ave, Acton.

The Buzz: Parents get a night out, kids get to wear themselves out skating and playing. It's a win/win. The Colonial Figure Skating Club's award-winning Theatre on Ice Teams will offer face-painting, skating and entertainment for kids as parents enjoy a Saturday evening out.

Price: $25 per child with a $50 per family maximum
