5 Things: Raytheon Meeting, Toys for Tots and Avoiding Holiday Weight Gain

There's a wide range of things to know today ... including a little history tidbit about a $10 million bat mitzvah.

1. Raython PIP Meeting. The Raytheon Public Involvement Plan meeting will take place tonight at 7:30 p.m. This is an opportunity for the public to update the public on their clean up of hazardous waste at the company's former Route 20 facility (400-440 Boston Post Road) in Wayland.

2. Toys for Tots Drive Ongoing. The Wayland Police Department is collecting toys for the U.S. Marine-sponsored program through Dec. 17. You can drop off your new, unwrapped toys at the Public Safety Building and the Town Building.

3. Avoiding Holiday Weight Gain. Tufts University Professor Susan B. Roberts will be at the Wayland Public Library tonight to talk about her book, "The Instinct Diet."

4. Wayland 375th Committee. The group continues to be hard at work putting together a year-long celebration fitting for a 375th anniversary. If you're interested in helping out or just learning more, the committee meets tonight. Here's the agenda.

5. What do Aerosmith, 50 Cent and a 13-year-old New Yorker have in common? Well, a $10 million bat mitzvah, of course. On this date in 2005, Aerosmith and 50 Cent took the stage at New York's famous Rainbow Room and performed for the crowd at 13-year-old Elizabeth Brooks' bat mitzvah. Who spent $10 million on his daughter's big party? That would be defense contractor David H. Brooks, CEO of DHB Industries.
